One Ukrainian military perished, and five were wounded in the zone of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) on May 23.
A serviceman shot himself in Krasnoarmiisk (the Donetsk region) military hospital on May 23. This is the second case of a military suicide in Krasnoarmiisk this week. The reason which made the first one end his life is not known now. The case is being investigated.
On May 22 Stanytsia Luhanska was severely shelled from artillery and mortars. Residential houses were damaged. Power and gas were cut off in a part of the town.
Overhead power lines in the village of Petrovka were damaged, the bread factory, which provides bread for the area of Stanytsia Luhanska and some neighbouring areas, was cut off power. Besides, the main water pipeline was damaged by a direct hit, water supply to occupied Luhansk and two villages on the territory under Ukrainian control, Artema and Nyzhneteple, was stopped. Hennadiy Moskal, Head of the Luhansk region ordered not to do any repair works to restore water supply to occupied Luhansk.
“If the terrorists use artillery (which is banned by the Minsk agreement) to shell us, if they destroy infrastructure and residential houses, make people hide in their basements at night, then they should renew water supply themselves. By the way, they do not pay anything for the water they consume. Repair brigades from the occupied territory will get access to the place of the damage without any problems”, said Moskal.
A monument to the first serviceman perished in the ATO was opened in Semenivka, in the suburbs of Slovyansk on May 23.
The coke chemistry plant in Avdiivka (the Donetsk region) was severely shelled again. As the result, Avdiivka is without electricity. The Donetsk water filter station stopped working, so, there is no water in Avdiivka either. The plant stopped working
Serhiy Shcheglov, a volunteer from “Aidar” battalion, was released from captivity on May 23. He was in captivity for almost 7 months. He says that, being a captive, he was tortured.
Aleksey Mosgovoy, illegal armed formation “Prizrak” (“Ghost”) commander, his press secretary Anna, and several guards were shot in their automobile near the village of Mykhailivka (the Luhansk region). Their death was confirmed in Alchevsk prosecutor’s office controlled by separatists. A mine exploded in front of the microbus with Mozgovoy. Then the automobile was shot from small guns including a machine gun.
