The main news of the Donbas: Slovyansk has celebrated Day of Liberation from “DPR”

There was a forum held in Slovyansk on June 5 to commemorate one-year anniversary of the town liberation from illegal “DPR” organization militants. The Forum was divided into several thematic blocks: business, internally displaced persons (IDPs), elections and decentralization, national dialogue, MM activity and public. There were public discussions, round-tables, media clusters on different topics within each block. Activists, NGO representatives, representatives of local and regional power took part in the Forum.

About 300 Slovyansk residents and Ukrainian servicemen came to the central square, named after Lenin, which is in front of the City Council building, to mark one year of Slovyansk liberation from “DPR” separatists.

Holding fair elections on the occupied territory is impossible. This opinion was expressed by Pavlo Zhebrivskiy, Chairman of Donetsk regional military and civil administration. He said, “Parrots say what their host told them”, commenting on the statement of illegal “DPR” organization about the possibility to hold elections on occupied territories on October 18. According to Zhebrivskiy, elections on occupied territories will be held when the Ukrainian-Russian border there is controlled by Ukraine, and the residents of occupied territories have obtained information from different sources for 3 months. Zhebrivskiy stressed that those people who are living on the occupied part of Ukraine could get information only from Russian and separatists’ MM which do not present information comprehensively.

Pavlo Zhebrivskiy spoke about inaction of local power concerning the development of infrastructure in towns and localities of the part of the Donetsk region controlled by Ukraine. He said, “There is enough money to restore the infrastructure: sewage, water supply, roads, and houses”. According to him, about 3 billion UAN will be allocated from the budget to restore the infrastructure. Unfortunately, there are no projects presented.

At the Forum “Donbas – Ukraine. Agenda”, held in Slovyansk on July 5, Pavlo Zhebrivskiy, Chairman of Donetsk regional military and civil administration emphasized that it is necessary to design the strategic plan of Donbas development for the period up to 2025.

He thinks, “There are several finance and industrial groups which subjugated not only economy, but power too. This mechanism should be broken. The Donbas should become the outpost of Europe in Eurasia”.
