Main news of Donbas: 42 attacks on ATO positions; water supply to Avdiivka restored; a monument to Russia appeared in Donetsk

Reports from the front

There were 42 attacks on ATO forces’ positions in the Donbas in the last 24 hours. 27 attacks were conducted in Donetsk direction and 15 attacks were conducted in Mariupol direction, as it was reported by the ATO Headquarters. Militants’ activity in the vicinity of Avdiivka and Donetsk Airport decreased when the OSCE mission was inspecting the area. The number of militants’ attacks on ATO forces’ positions along all the demarcation line has increased since 5 p.m.

Andriy Lysenko, Presidential Administration spokesperson on ATO related issues, informed that 1 Ukrainian serviceman perished and three were wounded in the ATO zone in the last 24 hours.

Reports from the territory controlled by Ukraine

A preliminary trial in the case of an activist and volunteer Iryna Kirikova took place in Druzhkivka on March 17. Kirikova accused Valery Hnatenko, current mayor of the town, of collaboration with militants. Hnatenko sued her for insulting his honour, dignity and business reputation. This time Kirikova’s lawyers asked to remove the judge. While the judge was thinking over a decision, court documents containing people’s personal data were found in the court toilet. The activists called the police. Kirikova’s lawyers asked to remove all the court due to the situation. The judge also  ordered Valeriy Hnatenko to appear in court personally.

Pavlo Zhebrivsky, head of Donetsk regional military and civil administration, informed that militants let workers on the territory of Donetsk filter station which allowed to renew water supply to Avdiivka. Zhebrivsky reminded that the town was cut off water supply for four days due to militants’ attacks on the filter station. 

Mariupol city council confirmed the working plan of reconstruction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs building. It was burnt down in clashes in May 2014. According to the plan, two upper floors of the building are to be dismantled and the ground floor is to be turned into a checkpoint. The cost of reconstruction is about 37 million hryvnyas (36 mln to rebuild the ground floor and 1 mln to demolish two upper floors) and it is to be financed by the city. According to the words of Mykola Proboyny, chief of Mariupol police department, the building is in failure condition and it poses a threat to the city residents.

Reports from the occupied territory

Semen Kabkaev, coordinator of “Stop Terror” project, informed that a troop train with military machinery arrived in occupied Khartsyzsk (the Donetsk region) from Russia. “One more troop train from Russia arrived in Khartsyzsk. It conatins about ten platforms with machinery, there are four tanks, two self-propelled guns, 2 MRLS “Grad”. According to preliminary data, there are also four cisterns with diesel fuel”, wrote he. The volunteer also informed that the troop train was escorted by
officers of the Russian Federation Armed Forces.

A rally devoted to the Crimea annexation took place in occupied Donetsk on March 18. A monument “Russia” was erected near Lenin square by “Young Republic” illegal movement.

Residents of occupied Donetsk post ads on the Internet where they offer clothes, pasta, cereal or other things from humanitarian aid kits in return for fresh fruit, vegetables, jam, baby food and hygienic kits.
