Main news of Donbas: New draft law of Donbas special status; Situation in Avdiivka vicinity deteriorates

Reports from the front

ATO Headquarters report on the Facebook page that there were 72 attacks on Ukrainian positions in the Donbas in the last 24 hours. The Ukrainian Armed Forces had to open fire 10 times to repell militants’ attacks. The Headquarters also inform that the situation is deteriorating. A shell hit a residential house in Avdiivka, a man was wounded in the head as a result.

None of Ukrainian servicemen was killed in the action in the last 24 hours, however, six militaries were wounded and one died in a car accident.

News from the territory which is controlled by the Ukrainian government

A draft law #4297 on creating interregional territorial association Donbas (ITA Donbas) in separate disctricts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine was registered in Verkhovna Rada. The districts will have their parliament, executive committee and an elected head. The project was initiated by six “Opposition Block” deputies. 

Andriy Pankov, Kramatorsk City Head (the Donetsk region) decided not to put  for discussion the question on renaming the streets which have already been renamed in accordance with the Act on Decommunization (Heroes of Ukraine street, Heroes of heavenly Hundred street and Hryhoriy Skovoroda street).

A conference devoted to discussing the ideas of developing the city took place in Slovyansk on March 26-27. The speakers shared their experience in such spheres as instruments for urban development, sources of income for cities, socially responsible business and city. 

 A report “Those who went through hell” was presented in Kostyantynivka. The report was presented by “Justice for Peace in Donbas” Coalition and illustrated its six months’ activity. The Coalition united 17 Donbas NGOs. In their presentation, human rights activists told about illegal prisons in the Donbas.

News from the occupied territory

The illegal “DPR” organization is going to elect rectors of the universities which are situated on the occupied territory of the Donbas at the end of June 2016. Yevheniy Horohov, head  of Donbas Building and Architecture Academy which was seized by “DPR” reported about this. According to his words, the majority of occupied universities do not have rectors and are headed by acting rectors.
