Travelers may use passports of DPR, LPR to enter Belarus; decision on stay to be made individually - Belarusian Interior Ministry

Travelers may use passports of DPR, LPR to enter Belarus; decision on stay to be made individually - Belarusian Interior Ministry

Belarusian laws permit Ukrainian nationals to enter the country without producing a passport, the Belarusian Interior Ministry said.

"The applicable legislation suggests that presence or absence of a passport is not what matters [for those individuals entering Belarus from the conflict area in Ukraine]," Belarusian Interior Minister Igor Shunevich said at a news conference in Minsk on Tuesday;

Shunevich went on to recall in this regard that under the currently applicable Presidential Decree 420, Belarusian authorities can allow Ukrainian citizens without identity papers to enter the country.

"From the legal perspective, a passport of the DPR or the LPR [self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic and Donetsk People's Republic] or any other identity paper, as long as someone enters from Ukraine, may be used in terms of considering and deciding individually on such a person's stay in Belarus," Shunevich said.

However, "no one of the Interior Ministry officers has seen a DPR/LPR passport with their own eyes yet", he said.
