There were not any queues at “Zaitseve” and “Hnutove” checkpoints in the morning of January 2. At Maryinka checkpoint, 15 cars were waining to enter the occupeid territory and 30 cars were waiting to leave it. The border guards report that on January 1 there were much fewer vehicles at checkpoints than at the end of the last year.
A school was shelled in the Luhansk region at night
A school in Stanytsya-Luhanska district (the Luhansk region) was shelled by unknown at night of January 1. A transmitting and receiving antenna, switch, and power-generating unit had been discovered inside this school on December 31. The equipment had possibly been used for obtaining information from electronic devices which belonged to the Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen and locals who had been within the coverage of the equipment.
Passengers armed with a knife made a taxi driver take them from Mariupol to occupied Horlivka
Early in the morning, two men threatened a taxi driver with a knife and asked him to take them into the occupied territory. The driver ran out of the car and informed the police officers about the incident at the nearest checkpoint. The passengers were detained. They were Dnipropetrovsk and Horlivka residents (born in 1986 ans 1976), one of them was armed with a knife.

The settlement of Zolote was without electricity because of electricity failure which happened at about 11 a.m. The short circuit happened due to the overload of the grid. However, electricity supply was restored at about 3 p.m.

Seven victims of a traffic accident in Artemivsk
Seven people were victims of a traffic accident in Artemivsk on January 1. In the evening, at about 10:45, a 45-year-old Volkswagen Т4 driver lost control of his car at the intersection of Ushakova and Tukhachevskoho Streets. The car pulled off the road and turned over. As a result, the driver and 6 passengers of the micro bus were hurt.
One more militant was detained in the Donetsk region
The police detained an “LPR” militant. His name is Oleksandr, byname “Khudoy”. He was born in 1992 and is a resident of the Luhansk region. He participated in shelling the town of Shchasttya. The criminal “was tired of the war and came to his relatives to relax”.
